Survival Guide Tip of the week:

Finding Common Ground…when there seems to be NONE

I frequently remind my readers to make friends with neighbors and be more accepting of people – you never know who is going to pull you out of the sink hole. But I have to ask myself how far am I willing to go in accepting people who have radically different views than mine? It fundamentally challenges me in my desire to listen to people who disagree with me— to try and find common ground.

The people at the Westboro Church? When they preach hate and/or violence they loose my willingness to listen.

I don’t have to listen to Rush Limbaugh but I’m trying to listen to the people who do choose to listen to him. What motivates people to reach conclusions so different than the ones I come to? I think we (me and the people I disagree with) have basic and radically different fears. It’s hard to imagine anyone being more afraid than I am.
